The group gained attention for their energetic music, distinctive visual style, and the charismatic presence of their lead singer, Annabella Lwin. Bow Wow Wow's music was a fusion of punk rock, new wave, and world music influences, which set them apart from many of their contemporaries.

The band was formed by Malcolm McLaren, the former manager of the Sex Pistols, who wanted to create a group that combined elements of punk with tribal rhythms and a Burundi drum sound. McLaren discovered Annabella Lwin, then a 14-year-old teenager, singing at a dry cleaning shop. Along with bassist Leigh Gorman, guitarist Matthew Ashman, and drummer David Barbarossa, Bow Wow Wow was born.

Their debut single, "C·30 C·60 C·90 Go!", was released in 1980 and quickly gained attention for its infectious energy and Lwin's distinctive vocals. The track was an early example of the band's unique sound, blending traditional punk rock with African and Latin rhythms. Bow Wow Wow's music was often characterized by catchy melodies, driving basslines, and tribal drumming, all of which contributed to their distinctive style.

They followed up with their debut album, "See Jungle! See Jungle! Go Join Your Gang Yeah, City All Over! Go Ape Crazy!" later that year. The album showcased their energetic and eclectic sound, featuring tracks like "Jungle Boy" and "Chihuahua."

Bow Wow Wow continued to release music throughout the early 1980s, exploring various musical styles and incorporating elements of reggae and Latin music into their sound. Their fusion of punk, new wave, and world music influences was ahead of its time and influenced subsequent generations of musicians. They are remembered for their catchy singles, distinctive visual style, and the youthful exuberance that characterized their music.
